| We received a call from Animal Control that they had just received in a pregnant boxer mix. She was due to deliver any day. For pregnant dogs that are either picked up by or relinquished to Animal Control, there are only two options, they are either rescued or put down, they cannot be adopted. We had Abby two days before she gave birth to 8 beautiful puppies around the stroke of midnight on 1/1/07. These were definitely New Years babies. The day we rescued Abby, we rescued 9 lives, not just one. |

Thought we'd send a couple of pictures of Abby. Sounds like all of the puppies have taken on some trait of Abby. The squirrel chasing, wanting to walk in front with the leash, pooping in the house, chewing and chewing! She loves to lick your face, too. Abby's gained a little weight and filled out since having the pups. Her ribs aren't showing like they were. We found out this winter that Abby LOVES the wood stove! As soon as it's lit, she stands as close as she possibly can to it and then rotates from side to side. We call it 'rotisserizing'. When she's all warmed up, she lies on her bed next to it.
She has helped to get our other dog, Bingo, moving around more. He is 8 years old and has arthritis in his hips. Abby will actually get him playing and moving around.
She completed beginning obedience training. She was the star inside the classroom, but as soon as you stepped out the door, she seemed to forget everything. She will do absolutely ANYTHING for a treat though! She even goes into her kennel without being told to because she thinks she'll get food! Here are some pics for the website. One is of her in the shower. We have a new rule that if any of the nieces and nephews want to spend the night, they get to give Abby a shower. It's pretty funny!
